  1. I love this! An old blog friend with a great interest in spiders and insects was just telling me about spiders and their webs. She wrote,

"This time of the year is wonderful for observing spiders. Most are at their penultimate life stage -- they've been growing all summer and are now spinning their largest and most conspicuous webs and making egg cases. Around here, their final largest stage coincides with the grasshoppers and several other insects also reaching their largest size -- so the food chain is tied closely to the spiders. There are all of these connections between the insects and to other predators that depend on them for food. I find it fantastic to contemplate the connections between the plants and animals."

She may be reviving her blog soon. Her archives contain wonderful photos of spiders and insects. I wasn't even remotely a fan of them until I saw her photos. She was living in Ontario with her beloved husband at the time she took those photos. Now she lives alone in Nova Scotia with her two dogs, living in an old house that she bought and remodeled herself. She plays multiple stringed instruments and is an avid gardener. Something prompted me to introduce you to her this morning!
